Starting therapy can bring up lots of questions. Here are some of the ones people ask most. If yours isn’t here, you’re welcome to ask me directly
1
What is person-centred therapy?
Person-centred therapy is an approach developed by psychologist Carl Rogers. It’s based on the belief that you are the expert on your own life. As a person-centred psychotherapist, I won’t analyse you or tell you what to do; I’ll work alongside you so you can hear yourself more clearly and find your own way forward.
What’s the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
2
The two terms are often used interchangeably and broadly mean the same thing. Psychotherapy training is usually longer and at postgraduate level, and can involve exploring things in more depth over time.
How much does it cost?
The 15-minute introductory call is free. Your first session is half price at £30, then £60 per 50 minute session, or less if you book a block of four.
3
How often will I have sessions, and for how long?
4
That’s up to you. Weekly, fortnightly, short-term or longer-term therapy: we’ll review regularly so you always have a say.
Yes, with rare legal exceptions such as a serious risk of harm. If that ever becomes relevant, I’ll talk it through with you openly.
5
Is therapy confidential?
What if I need to cancel, or it doesn’t feel right?
6
Please give 24 hours’ notice to move a session, or it will be charged in full. And if therapy doesn’t feel right, you can pause or stop at any time.
